PlayStation State of Play broadcast concept with PS5 console and game reveal announcements including expected titles for April 2026 showcase

Multiple credible industry insiders, including NateTheHate and Insider Gaming, are reporting that Sony PlayStation is planning a State of Play broadcast in April 2026. While Sony has not officially confirmed a date, the insider reports suggest the event could come as soon as this week or within the remaining two weeks of the month. GameSpot first reported on the April window on April 15, citing multiple sources familiar with Sony's plans. Comicbook noted that even if a specific rumored date passed without an announcement, April still offers Sony ample time to hold the showcase before May.

The most anticipated potential reveal is Marvel's Wolverine from Insomniac Games, which the studio pledged earlier in spring to show new details and gameplay footage at some point during spring 2026. A State of Play would be the natural venue for that reveal, given that Insomniac has used the format for major reveals previously. Insider sources also point to Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced — Ubisoft's rumored remaster or remake of the 2013 pirate-themed entry — as a possible announcement, alongside several third-party titles not yet publicly announced for PS5.

Sony's 2026 first-party lineup has been relatively light compared to prior years, making a State of Play announcement with meaningful new reveals strategically important. The PlayStation 5 continues to hold its ground against Nintendo Switch 2 in monthly hardware sales, but Sony needs high-profile software to maintain momentum through mid-year. An April State of Play featuring a Wolverine gameplay debut would be a significant moment for the platform — Insomniac's previous Spider-Man titles sold over 10 million copies each, making Wolverine one of the most anticipated PlayStation exclusives in the current generation cycle. Sony has not responded to requests for comment.
