Ghost of Yōtei Patch 1.601: Hell Mode Raid Difficulty and Native Matchmaking Now Live
Sucker Punch Productions deployed patch 1.601 for Ghost of Yōtei on April 19, 2026, adding two of the Legends mode community's most-requested features: Hell Mode difficulty for Raid encounters and native matchmaking for all Raid tiers. Hell Mode fundamentally alters boss encounter behavior in the Raid by increasing enemy aggression, introducing more complex combo strings, tightening parry and dodge windows, and reducing recovery time between major attacks. Completing Hell Mode bosses unlocks exclusive class cosmetics not available at lower difficulty tiers.
The matchmaking addition addresses a particularly contentious launch issue — the original Raid shipped in patch 1.600 without matchmaking despite developer warnings that it was designed as a four-player co-op activity and nearly impossible to complete solo. With 1.601, players can now find teammates directly through the in-game interface for all Raid difficulty tiers, and matchmaking has also been extended to weekly Nightmare missions so players can fill empty slots rather than abandoning runs. The patch also adds skip-to-boss options for the Dragon and Saito Raid encounters, allowing experienced groups to bypass the wave-clearing phases and go directly to the boss confrontation.
Additional changes in 1.601 include a Gear Retirement prestige system that allows players to sacrifice high-level gear for stat bonuses rather than simply dismantling it, a checkmark system marking completed Story and Incursion missions in the mission select screen, and several crash and stability fixes. Ghost of Yōtei's Legends mode launched in March 2026 as a free cooperative multiplayer update available to all owners of the base game, featuring four character classes — Samurai, Archer, Mercenary, and Shinobi — and a rotating mission structure. The game remains one of PS5's best-reviewed titles of 2025-2026, and Sucker Punch has pledged continued free content updates throughout the year.
