Bethesda's space RPG Starfield launched on PlayStation 5 on April 7, 2026, more than two and a half years after its original September 2023 debut as an Xbox and PC console exclusive. The PS5 release arrived digitally at 8 AM PT and brings the complete game — including every post-launch patch — to PlayStation players for the first time. The Standard Edition is priced at $49.99 USD and the Premium Edition at $69.99 USD, which bundles in the base game, the Shattered Space expansion, the brand-new Terran Armada story DLC, 1,000 Creation Credits, and the Constellation Skin Pack.

The PS5 launch is paired with a major simultaneous free content update called Free Lanes, available at no cost across all platforms. Free Lanes is described as one of the game's largest post-launch content drops since Shattered Space and brings new mission structures, gear, and exploration systems. The PS5 version was specifically built around DualSense hardware features, incorporating adaptive triggers, touchpad functionality, and lightbar integration for immersive feedback — a first for the Starfield experience.

The arrival of Starfield on PS5 is one of the clearest signals of Microsoft's multiplatform publishing shift following its Bethesda acquisition. The move follows other previously Xbox-exclusive Bethesda titles releasing on PlayStation and signals that Bethesda's RPG catalog is fully transitioning away from platform exclusivity. Reviews note the PS5 release represents a notably refined experience given the cumulative three-plus years of patches, quality-of-life additions, and the massive content library now available at launch.
